Burritobesity: Cali-Mex introduces a 1-KILO burrito!

Tired of tiny portions at Hong Kong restaurants? Wish restaurants would serve their food American style, with at least 1,000 calories per plate?

Your dreams have finally come true with Cali-Mex’s brand-new one-kilo burrito. Yes, one kilogram! As in 2.2 pounds, or the weight of an unabridged dictionary, or, if you want to use an object you’re actually familiar with, a bottle of wine.

Cali-Mex, which is about to open a new branch in Sai Ying Pun, decided to introduce a new burrito that is double the size of their current largest offering, for only HKD168.

As usual, you get to fill it up with anything you want, from US pork shoulder to New Zealand ling fillet.

We asked Cali-Mex how many calories are in the burrito, but they couldn’t tell us for sure since they “don’t have a nutritionist”.

We suppose we could have guessed they didn’t have an in-house health guru if they’re offering a one-kilo bundle of rice, beans and meat.

Update #1: Cali-Mex has informed us that they do actually have a nutritionist who is working on figuring out the full nutritional profile of the burrito. Stay tuned.

Update #2: A rep for Cali-Mex has emailed us: “We certainly do not want the public to think that we are unhealthy which is totally the opposite to Cali-Mex’s positioning.”
