CocoBeats: Hong Kong’s 10 best music events this April

Spring is upon us, and that calls for some music. In the few weeks of perfect weather that we get, you get to dance without having to hold your jacket in one hand, and without having to suffocate in a dense fog consisting purely of evaporated sweat. Yay!

Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas

Holy crap, the Black Eyed Peas are coming! Minus Fergie. And will.i.am. And that other guy. But that other, other guy will be in Hong Kong! Yes that’s right, Taboo, arguably the least known quarter of American mega-band Black Eyed Peas, will be performing at Déjà vu. The night is being billed as a celebration of the band’s 20th anniversary, but we’re not sure where the other 75 percent of the group is.

Where: Déjà Vu, 1/F, 17 Lan Kwai Fong, Central. (Google Maps)

Concert In The Dark

Music is of course, an auditory experience. But what would it be like if you completely removed the visual component? The annual Concert In The Dark does exactly that: eight different concerts, managed by a visually impaired team, will be held in complete and utter darkness.

This year’s series is the largest of its kind in the world, with each show being able to accommodate 800 people. From local indie band Supper Moment to Queen of Pop Joey Yung, each show promises to be spectacular and unique.

Make sure you arrive at least 45 minutes before the show so that you can fully prepare for the experience!

Charli XCX

Rolling Stone Magazine named this 22-year-old Brit sophomore’s album the Best Pop Album of 2014, and called her “the pop star 2014 was waiting for”.

You’ve heard her sing in a raspy Britney-esque voice on “Boom, Clap”, evoke Gwen Stefani in the chorus of the Most Unavoidable Song of 2014, “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea, you may have been prompted to skip school by her track “Break The Rules”… and now you can watch her perform live in Hong Kong!
