A text message appearing to be from a Hong Kong property agent advised home owners in Discovery Bay to sell or rent their properties at a lower price because they may be haunted.
Apple Daily reports that the message contained the phone number and licence number of a professional property agent willing to snap up the bargain ghost flats.
It’s common knowledge in Hong Kong that properties that are considered haunted – for example if a murder or a suicide has taken place there, or even those close to funeral shops or graveyards – are sold and rented out for way below market value.
The agent named in the text message has insisted she has been set up, however, pointing out that the message did not come from her phone number.
Hong Kong’s regulator said the matter will be investigated.
