Hong Kong lecture to explain how to make the most out of your constantly beeping phone

We’re always being told how the rhythm of emails pings, Tweet beeps and WhatsApp chimes we dance to in our daily lives is anything but social.

Some say such obsessions make us more isolated and lonely, but our perpetual connectedness can also throw up endless opportunities.

At least, that’s the opinion of Lee Rainie, co-author of Networked, a book that examines the concept of “networked individualism” – whereby relationships are no longer confined to neighbourhoods, work becomes less hierarchical, and we are encouraged to engage in order to glean information.

Raine, also the director of Internet, Science and Technology research at the Pew Research Center, will guide us through the challenges and chances this ever-evolving world throws up during “Networked: The New Social Operating System” at the Asia Society next week.

Clay Chandler, author, editor and principal at The Barrenrock Group, will also be speaking, but we’re pretty sure that’s just because he’s a Harvard Graduate.

When: Drinks 6:30pm, talk 7pm, Wednesday April 29
Where: Asia Society Hong Kong Centre, 9 Justice Drive, Admiralty
Price: HKD200 for members, HKD250 for guests
