Last year’s favourite Hong Kong time-lapse clears up at European photography contest

Every year, Hong Kong spawns hundreds of videos paying homage to the beauty of the territory. Undoubtably one of the most memorable from last year was the incredible time-lapse “Seen By My Eyes” by Francis So – and it seems we’re not the only ones who fell in love with it.

The five-minute triumph – which features ethereal footage of rolling mist, sunrises and starlit skies in Sai Kung, Yuen Long, Tai Mo Shan, Kowloon Peak and Po Toi Island – has be recognised at a photography contest in Portugal.

Out of 180 entries from 48 countries, So’s video – created from thousands of photographs taken mili-seconds apart – won the top prize in the Mountain View category, was first runner-up for the Timelapse and Regional Documentary prizes, and second runner-up in the Countryside section.

Not bad for a guy who wasn’t even a professional photographer until the start of this year.

According to Apple Daily, So said his success at the competition is testament to Hong Kong’s natural beauty, but cautioned that much of this could be lost if huge infrastructure projects – such as northeastern development of the New Territories and the proposed third runway – go ahead.
