Manhunt underway for suspected ‘prostitute’ killer in Yuen Long

The police are looking for a man in connection with the murder of a suspected prostitute in Yuen Long.

A 44-year-old woman, surnamed Zheng, was found dead in a flat, with a string tied around her neck, on Yuen Long On Lok Road on Friday, according to a government statement.

The police went looking for her after the woman’s 19-year-old daughter reported her missing earlier in the day.

On Thursday morning, the woman, who is believed to be a prostitute, was captured on CCTV bringing two young women up to her flat, reports Apple Daily. They appeared to stay for only seven minutes before leaving.

Five minutes later, the camera captured a bald man, in his 50s and about 1.7 metres tall, talking to the victim for a few minutes before accompanying her upstairs to her flat. He left after 10 minutes.

The security guard said he recognised the man, and that he was often in the neighbourhood.

Another person, who claimed to know the victim, said Zheng and the man were often seen holding hands and going out to eat together in the last few months.

A woman who self-identified as a sex worker told Apple Daily anonymously that Zheng had recently started renting old apartments that she subdivided and sublet to young women.

The police say that no cash or valuables were missing from the woman’s belongings.

The woman was married to a man 24 years her senior, who admits he thinks she may have married him to acquire an HKID.

He told Apple Daily that he simply hopes the police will catch her murderer soon.

Anyone who has any information about the case should contact the Yuen Long police at (+852) 3661-4644 or (+852) 3661-4645.
