Are you hip enough to make it into Hong Kong’s rather weird Fashion Intelligence Index?

ICYMI, a bunch of gush-worthy international fashion brands have been opening up flagship stores in Causeway Bay’s Fashion Walk of late. To create more buzz (read: sales) around this new fashion destination – not your boring, average mall – the PR team has launched Hong Kong’s first “Fashion Intelligence Index”.

Hold onto your hats. This is going to be a crazy ride!

The scheme is part data collection, part attempt to decode the continually mystifying breed of humans known as “fashionistas”, and perhaps a cleverly disguised alien mission to analyse the human race.

Phase One has seen a GoPro strapped onto a MINI cooper in a quest to document the favoured colours, patterns and cuts worn by trendy Hongkongers in the area. Think Google Maps creating Street View, but with more of a focus on scarf hues.

Phase Two involves artist Eric Siu playing the role of Fashion Hunter, while wearing his innovative camera helmet, “Touchy” (don’t ask). Siu has been capturing images of accessories favoured by the fashionable.

In order to take a photo, human contact must be maintained for 10 seconds (you asked). Not quite as fast as telepathy, but where’s the fun in that?

A few side projects also hope to answer some deeply complex age-old questions, such as:

– Are all fashionistas on diets? Which will be determined by whether they pick a big or a small lollipop in survey.

– What is the average heel height of a fashionista? Which will be determined by a magical shoe booth.

– What is the average weight of a fashionista’s bag? Which will be determined by weighing bags.

– What the hell makes purses so heavy? They’re going to root through your stuff.

We’ve been barred from divulging further information in order to maintain the highest possible level of scientific rigour in the collection of this vitally important data.

So, gird your loins, make sure to look your best as you strut around Fashion Walk from now until May 31, and try to figure out what on earth is going on there!
