Security guard dies after Deutsche Bank executive crashes Ferrari in car park

A Deutsche Bank executive crashed his black Ferrari 458 Spider yesterday morning in the car park of residential complex the Waterfront, killing a 53-year-old security guard who was on shift at the time, reports Apple Daily.

The driver was identified as 48-year-old Robert Ebert, the Head of Equities of the Asia, Japan, and Australia region at Deutsche Bank.

At around 8am, while driving to work at the ICC, Ebert apparently lost control of the sports car, which headed into the ground floor entrance of the car park. The car then glided past a Maserati that was exiting and several water-filled barriers before ultimately crashing into a security guard who was seated by the wall.

Ebert called the police following the accident and was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.

The security guard, surnamed Ku, sustained multiple fractures and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Ku worked as a security guard at The Waterfront for 14 years, and was admired by his colleagues for his hard work and friendliness, according to Apple Daily.

Ku’s family, including his mother, arrived to the hospital after receiving news of the accident. He was only half an hour into his shift when the crash occurred.

Officers from the Kowloon West special traffic investigation team have launched an investigation into the incident.
