BREAKING: Tram slams into stationary double-decker bus in Central, passengers injured

A tram rammed straight into a stationary double-decker in Central on Des Voeux Road Central, says a passenger on the tram.

The accident occurred only minutes ago, after the westbound tram stopped at the HSBC station.

“The bus was parked… The tram went straight into it,” Flo Geiser, who was sitting at the very front of the tram’s top deck, told us via Facebook. “Crazy.”

Geiser says she watched the tram approaching the bus, but the tram did not slow down.

“I really thought, ‘Oh crap, he better brake soon… And then… slam!”

“All the front windows [were] smashed,” wrote Geiser, who is bleeding from a minor injury on her foot, which she believes is either from broken glass or broken wooden panelling. She says she was lucky that it was hot and that the window next to her was open.

She guesses that 10 to 12 people were on the upper deck of the tram, and that there were 10 passengers downstairs.

“Luckily no one got hurt too badly,” she continued.

Geiser saw one woman who was bleeding from a wound near her eye, possibly from slamming her face against one of the tram’s billboards.

A representative from Hong Kong Tramways confirmed that a tram did collide with a KMB bus, and that the tramways were clear already.

“Everything back to normal already,” he said on the phone.

However he was unable to say what caused the collision.
