Video of Macau woman abusing elderly mother in public shared widely by Hong Kong netizens

Yesterday, Facebook user Ateven Ioa posted a video showing a middle-aged woman yelling at and hitting a wheelchair-bound elderly woman, who she claims to be her mother.

In the two-minute-long video, the younger woman is seen slapping the elderly woman, hitting her arm repeatedly, screaming at her in Cantonese, and at one point, throwing an umbrella at her

(Some viewers may find this video disturbing.)

The video has been shared more than 42,000 times at the time of writing.

The woman seems to be angry that her mother won’t lower the brake lever on the wheelchair.

A man’s voice can be heard yelling at the woman, saying: “If you hit her again, I’ll call the police.”

“Then call the police!” the woman yells back.

The man filming the video then asks the old woman, “Is she your daughter?”

“Yes,” she replies.

“How can she hit you like that?” he says.

The first man then warns her again: “If you hit your grandmother like this I’m going to call the police.”

She angrily answers: “This isn’t my grandmother, it’s my MOTHER!”

According to Ming Pao, the incident occurred in Macau, and the elderly woman suffered a stroke a decade ago. Her daughter doesn’t work in order to take care of her, and the two are often seen in public together, with the woman yelling at and beating her mother.
