The only time you’ll ever see Hong Kong people walk on an escalator (video)

Generally speaking, Hongkongers aren’t ones for walking on escalators. It’s not our fault. We’re constantly reminded to “stand firm, hold the handrail and don’t walk” – and we’re nothing if not sticklers for rules.

It seems the impossible has happened though. A Hong Kong netizen took footage of people walking up an escalator in Hong Kong.

Oh, wait. Nope. They’re only walking because the escalator is going the wrong way and they’re clearly too lazy to find another route.

Our favourite thing about this 34-second clip is when everyone bunches up at the top – presumably because no-one gets off quickly enough, which is another well known Hong Kong escalator use quirk.

Everyone is therefore swept back down to the bottom once again.

We’re not sure where this video was taken, but 環球膠報, who posted it to Facebook, has dubbed the location Hamster Cage Mall.

Figures.
