Mainland tycoon’s son accused of cheating in yacht exam with cufflinks pinhole camera

The son of a mainland business tycoon is in court accused of using a pinhole camera disguised as cufflinks to cheat in a boating exam.

Huang Xiapeng has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud, despite making an earlier confession, according to the police officer who processed the case, Ming Pao Daily reports.

In true Hong Kong style, however, the police officer admits that he failed to record the confession in his logbook. D’oh!

According to Tam Yun-chi, who was monitoring the Pleasure Vessel Operations Licence Grade 2 exam on November 22, 2013, Huang was found to be wearing a pinhole camera disguised as a cufflink and a flesh-coloured earpiece.

Huang allegedly admitted he was feeding the test questions to a friend located outside in a goods truck.

In court on Wednesday, however, Huang’s lawyer denied that his client had confessed.

Apple Daily reports that Huang is the son of Huang Bingwen, the billionaire founder of China’s Shantou Dongfeng Printing group.

The case continues.
