Yahoo releases seemingly useless app… only in Hong Kong

With a new week comes a brand new way to communicate with your friends, and by communicate we obviously mean make plans to get sloshed and send each other cat videos.

Yahoo Livetext, a video messenger app, just went live this month, but only in Hong Kong. The app combines regular text messaging paired with video without the audio, allowing users to see the reactions of the people they message in real time, reports Benchmark Reporter.

So it’s like your friends are right there with you apart from your can’t hear them? Great! What else?

The app is only currently available in Hong Kong on the iTunes App Store, so you also get bonus cool points for using a city-exclusive system, or maybe minus cool points for being a Guinea pig.

The one-on-one messaging app can use Wi-Fi or data, and for now does not support group chats or video calls.

A spokesperson from Yahoo said that they are experimenting with a new product experience that will delight users. They also said that Livetext is not an alternative to built-in mobile apps of smart phones, but just a cool new way to keep in touch.

Get Livetext here today and let us know if it’s a crap as it sounds.
