If you still had any remnants of hope regarding the sincerity of celebrity endorsements, let those last shreds flow away because Pakho Chau, Cantopop singer and very much a dude, is Kotex’s newest spokesperson for their menstrual pads.
Was Kotex unable to find a female representative from Hong Kong’s pop-star factories? Did they think women would trust the opinions of a man who definitely doesn’t have a uterus more than someone who has needed a menstrual product at least once?
We have many questions, and none are answered by the first ad, which features Chau dreamily peering over a bouquet of cotton, the menstrual-blood absorbent qualities of which he probably knows nothing.
Chau posted the ad to his Facebook page yesterday, with the caption: “Honoured to serve as a spokesperson for Kotex’s feminine hygiene products”.
We’re not sure what Kotex was thinking, but we’ll take this move as a step forward in breaking the taboo surrounding menstrual hygiene.
As the top commenter on the Facebook post says, maybe this will encourage women’s significant others to help out when they’re on their period.
