Teen arrested for stealing blind cat from Hong Kong bookstore

A teenager has been arrested for allegedly stealing a nearly blind cat from a Hong Kong bookstore.

Honestly, the things kids get up to these days!

An unnamed 19-year-old male was apprehended at his Chai Wan home by police on Wednesday after they apparently identified him from CCTV footage outside the Sum Kee Book Store in North Point, reports the SCMP.

Last Thursday, a nearly blind cat named Fok Jai (lucky boy) was unlucky enough to be cat-napped, with in-store cameras showing a masked and hooded man bundling him into a backpack and walking out of the shop.

However, after media appeals, Fok Jai was returned to Wan Chai’s SPCA centre on Monday by a man who gave his name and particulars. He is not thought to be the same man who was arrested.

According to the book shop owner, Caroline Chan – who keeps around 20 cats in the store – Fok Jai has been skittish since his return and does not want to be picked up.

The teen has not been charged but was asked to report back to the station in a month’s time.

At least he’s just a pussy snatcher rather than a cat burglar though.
