Hong Kong businessman accused of killing club hostess mistress who vanished in 2011

A married businessman killed his hostess girlfriend and disposed of her body after his wife found out about their affair, Hong Kong’s High Court heard today.

Securities company director Ivan Chan Man-sum, 42, is accused of the murder of Chun ka-yee, 33, in October 2011.

According to the opening statement of prosecutor Arthur Luk, which was reported by the SCMP, Chan met Chun in a Tsim Sha Tsui nightclub in 2007 and dated her until October 2011.

Despite having a wife and two sons, Chan made Chun the beneficiary of his insurance policy and paid the downpayment on her Amoy Gardens (Kwun Tong) flat.

Prosecutor Luk, However, says the relationship took a turn for the worse when Chan’s wife found out about the affair in July 2011.

CCTV footage shows Chun last entered her building on October 5. The cameras also show Chan visiting twice on October 7, the second time leaving with a bulky bag on a trolly.

He then ordered the flat redecorated between October 9 and 11, with the unit eventually being repossessed when Chun’s bank account ran out of money for the direct debit mortgage payments.

“Despite the absence of the body, the prosecution says that there is overwhelming circumstantial evidence against the defendant – which can lead to only one inference – that the defendant had murdered his mistress Ms Chun and disposed of her body,” the court heard.

Chan denies murder. The trial continues.
