Smile! Facekinis are the new must-have beach item in Hong Kong

You may well have heard about the trend of facekinis – basically a balaclava you wear on the beach to protect your face form the sun – but have you actually seen one in action?

If not, you’re probably going to this summer.

According to Headline Daily, this must-have beach accessory for the sun-shy is becoming quite a hit in Hong Kong, having been spotted on Stanley Main Beach, Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay.

And as if they don’t stick out enough, the facekini wearers were approached by reporters asking what the hell they think they look like.

One 53-year-old woman surnamed Tsang explained that she made her own facekini out of a rubber swimming cap, which must feel sensational on a hot day.

A 40-year-old male dermatologist surnamed Yu said he started wearing one because his face became too tanned.

A 77-year-old woman surnamed Lau said she doesn’t care if younger people say she looks like a bank robber.

Hear that, kids? She doesn’t care. Be as carefree as Mrs Lau and buy a Facekini today!
