27 tour group members sick after eating at Hung Hom restaurant

Who hasn’t had a holiday ruined by a bout of diarrhoea or two? These six different tour groups, all of which had members eat at the same sketchy restaurant in Hung Hom, certainly have.

A total of 27 people have gotten food poisoning since the outbreak was first detected on Sunday by Macau health authorities.

On Tuesday the authorities reported that five members of a 57-person tour group travelling from Hangzhou to Hong Kong and then to Macau had fallen ill, experiencing abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting and fever. The symptoms started about 13 to 16 hours after eating at the restaurant in question.

All five, aged between seven and 68, were sent to hospital and treated as outpatients.

Today the Centre for Health Protection announced that they’ve detected even more cases, involving 22 people from five different tour groups that had also travelled from the mainland to Hong Kong.

The ill are aged between four and 78. One person had to be hospitalised but has already been discharged.
