Ew. The Peak is, like, soooo nouveau riche.
According to Forbes, Hong Kong’s Deep Water Bay is the wealthiest neighbourhood on the entire planet, with 19 residents who live on three streets in the area having a total wealth of USD123 billion (HKD953.52 billion, or you know, just short of a trillion).
If you lived there, your neighbours would include Li Ka-shing (Asia’s richest man), Robert Kuok (Malaysia’s richest man), and Stanley Ho (the Macau casino magnate).
But don’t ask about how much the houses cost. Unlike at the Peak, properties don’t go on sale here very often, making it a pretty exclusive neighbourhood.
“When you’re talking about the number of homes available in Deep Water Bay, they are very, very limited figures,” says Patrick Chau, real estate firm Savills’ deputy senior director of residential development and investment.
“All the properties are owned by billionaires, and they have no urgent need of cash.”
That’s not a bad problem to have.
