A man who made a purchase on HKTVmall’s online store is understandably disgruntled after he was given a free melon instead of the coffee machine he was promised with his purchase as part of a promotion. Same same, but different.
For HKTV’s latest promotional campaign, which was heavily advertised across the Kwun Tong, Chai Wan, Tseung Kwan O, Tsuen Wan and Tung Chung MTR lines, customers are entitled to receive a free gift when they make an online purchase of HKD400 or above.
According to a post made on the customer’s Facebook page, he was promised a coffee machine according to his delivery address (the gift varies depending on where you live).
However, upon entering his address online, the coffee machine was switched to a canteloupe instead.
The man, surnamed Lee, naturally exercised his god-given right to complain on the internet, threatening to contact the media about HKTV’s egregious, life-changing error.
About an hour later, a Facebook user by the name of Cheng Wai Lam replied to the post.
“I am Ricky Wong. I want to know how you entered your address,” the comment said.
Lee naturally had his doubts and questioned the authenticity of the account at first, but later the official Ricky Wong Facebook page replied again, this time with a detailed explanation and further instructions.
“I need to sleep now. Will follow up with you again tomorrow. If you have already placed an order over HKD400, I guarantee you will receive a free coffee machine,” wrote the CEO, clearly a stickler for customer satisfaction.
In the end, Lee was finally able to get his coffee machine instead of a canteloupe. And they all lived happily ever after.
