Drunk Australian tourist arrested after hijacking minibus and driving for 4.6km

Yesterday morning an Australian tourist was arrested after he allegedly got onto a minibus, kicked the driver off, and proceeded to take the vehicle for a joyride for 4.6 kilometres.

The six-foot-tall man, named Patrick, had walked up to a minibus at the junction of Lockhart Road and Cannon Street in Causeway Bay at 4:50am, reports Apple Daily.

He was told to walk to the front of the line of minibuses, where the next vehicle was getting ready to leave. Not one to follow instructions, however, the Aussie man suddenly pushed open the doors to the bus while screaming “FUCK” over and over, before grabbing the driver by the neck.

The driver, aged 64, obviously exited the green 4C minibus, and watched as the Aussie drove away before he called the police.

He later described the tourist as “strong-looking”, reeking of alcohol and bleeding from his left hand.

A whole two hours later, the police found the abandoned bus at the intersection of Stubbs Road and Nicholson Road, above Happy Valley. The minibus’ left headlight was broken, while a window was smashed on its left side.

Just 30 metres away was Patrick himself. Unsurprisingly, he failed a Breathalyser test, and got himself into more trouble by refusing a blood test.

He was arrested for suspected theft, assault and refusing to give a blood sample, and was sent to hospital for injuries to his hand and knee.

The bus driver said his children keep telling him to retire, but he insists on continuing to work. It’s the first time he’s had a vehicle stolen in his 30 years of driving minibuses. He said although he was frightened by the incident, he’s going to keep working.

Remember: don’t drink, hijack public transport, drive, then pass out next to the stolen vehicle.
