InvestHK say Uber’s case study was taken offline as ‘standard procedure’ after police raid

InvestHK has released a statement after removing an article talking about Uber’s success in setting up in Hong Kong and the support the company received from the government during the process.

The article was taken down after police arrested five Uber drivers and raided the company’s local office yesterday. 

“There are legal ways in Hong Kong for companies to offer car rental services via mobile applications, but not all mobile car booking applications can meet the legal requirements in Hong Kong,” said an InvestHK statement.

“As Uber is now being investigated for allegedly operating outside of the legal ambit, as a standard procedure InvestHK has removed the case study from its website.”

The spokesperson added that though the department aims to ensure that the companies they support “are aware of the regulatory regimes of their particular business”, it is the company’s responsibility to makes sure they comply with the law.
