Filipino domestic worker jumps to her death after employers accuse her of theft, fire her

A Filipino domestic worker, identified as Rimando, jumped to her death yesterday morning in Sha Tin after her employers of more than a year accused her of theft and fired her.

The 47-year-old helper was accused of stealing money from the handbag of a woman visiting her employers’ 19th-floor flat at Ravana Garden, reports Apple Daily.

The woman, a friend of the helper’s female employer, claimed that she went to the bathroom and upon exiting, found the maid rummaging through her purse.

Rimando’s employers called the police, who arrived on the scene and questioned the worker and the accuser.

The police reportedly asked the female friend what was inside the handbag, what was missing from the handbag, and how much money was stolen – but she was unable to answer any of the questions.

Since the officers did not see any evidence that Rimando had stolen anything, they refused to file a report.

Despite this, the female head of household maintained the accusation, and insisted on firing the helper on the spot. She told her to pack up her belongings and leave immediately.

Rimando was apparently crying loudly as she packed up her things, the police standing by helplessly.

All of a sudden she pushed open a window and jumped, landing on a platform below.

An ambulance arrived on the scene and she was rushed to hospital, where she was declared dead.
