Clear Water Bay swimmer trying to save dying turtles accused of animal abuse

The police were called to a Clear Water Bay beach on Wednesday when a bystander accused a woman of animal abuse, but didn’t press charges when the officers realised the woman was actually trying to save a turtle.

The woman was swimming near a rocky shore catching fish when she spotted two red-eared sliders – a type of freshwater turtle – that, understandably, seemed to be in distress, reports Apple Daily.

She decided to bring them back to shore, but lost one of the turtles on her swim back.

When she got back to the beach, she placed the turtle in a bucket of freshwater, which a passerby mistook as an act of animal of cruelty, leading them to call the police.

The police arrived on the scene but quickly realised what was actually going on.

Though the fate of the other turtle is unknown, the rescued reptile now has a new home with its rescuer!
