On Monday night, five teenage girls aged between 14 and 17 were found to be working as nightclub hostesses after an undercover police sting in Yau Ma Tei.
The two people in charge of the nightclub, a 43-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, were arrested for hiring underage employees in a licensed venue, reports Oriental Daily.
At 7pm that evening, a squad of special Yau Tsim Mong District police disguised as customers entered the karaoke club on Shanghai Street in Yau Ma Tei.
It is reported that two of the underage girls are students and were looking to earn easy money during their summer holidays.
While the nightclub charges its clients HKD300-HKD400 per hour, the girls were only paid HKD100 per hour.
The police got in touch with the girls’ parents so that they could pick up their daughters from the police station.
They’re probably grounded now.
