Hit the boozy bullseye at the Hong Kong Darts Masters Tournament

If you don’t know already, the Hong Kong Darts Masters is the Rugby Sevens of darts. In other words, it’s less about the ahem “sport”, and all about the party.

But as darts is the world’s fastest growing ahem “sport” in the world (and we’re not just talking about bellies here) some will no doubt be genuinely excited about the matches in next week’s tournament.

Eight of the bar-games/sporting legends, including five of the world’s top throwers, will be competing in Hong Kong’s Dart Masters competition on Sept. 4 and 5. You may know them by their legendary names, but the rest of us will recognise them only by their chubby forearms.

Raymond van Barneveldf from the Netherlands and Phil Taylor from England will compete alongside three other world-class English dart throwers, two Hong Kong champions (Royden Lam who won the Hong Kong Open in 2009, and PDC World Championship finalist Scott MacKenzie) and one other local contender who they don’t even bother naming on the poster.

Sorry, mate. A few more years in the pub for you.

This two-day tournament will begin on Friday, Sept. 4 with knockout rounds leading into semi-final and final matches on Saturday Sept. 5. Only one lad will walk away with the USD100,000 (HKD775,050) prize, certainly more than enough to buy his weight in beer.

Tickets start from HKD499 and peak with two-day combo VIP tables for eight for a whopping HKD28,792.

All the fun (and serious competition) will go down at the Hong Kong Masters Darts Hall at the Observation Wheel, with Butchers Club food available for purchase. Bullseye!
