Man charged with assault and intimidation after threatening 7-year-old stepson with knife

Yesterday a man, 44, was charged with common assault and criminal intimidation after he hit his seven-year-old stepson with a clotheshanger and threatened him with a butcher’s knife.

He was given a one-year probation with a HKD1,000 surety at the Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts.

On July 15, the man, surnamed Law, chastised his stepson for playing with water in the bathroom, but the boy refused to stop, reports Oriental Daily.

Law then used a clothes hanger to hit the seven-year-old three times on his back.

Apparently that wasn’t punishment enough, and he proceeded to pull out a 30-centimetre-long butcher’s knife and threatened to cut off his fingers.

The boy was sent to hospital for examination and his back was found to be swollen.

At the hearing, the magistrate  said: “What’s unsual about a seven-year-old playing with water in the bathroom?”
