Parents arrested for abuse after toddler’s urine tests positive for meth

On Wednesday afternoon, the police received an alert from Tuen Mun Hospital that a 28-month-old toddler’s urine had tested positive for meth.

After investigating further, the police arrested the father, aged 43, and the mother, aged 37, for suspected child abuse, reports Oriental Daily. They are both unemployed.

The toddler’s one-year-old sister’s urine did not test positive for any drugs.

The mother had reportedly gone to hospital for treatment on July 20, and when her attending physician realised her two young daughters were long overdue for a check-up, he told her to bring them in to run routine tests.

The toddlers came in for routine tests and left with their mother, with the results not coming back until Wednesday.

The case is being handled by the Tuen Mun District Criminal Investigation Team and has been labelled as “ill treatment by one in charge of a child or young person”.

They have searched the family’s home and found no drugs, and are investigating whether the child had accidentally ingested drugs or if she was given it intentionally.
