Details emerge of bloody knife attack that left 3 injured during rush hour at Jordan MTR station

Terence Mok posted this photo to the Hong Kong Incidents Facebook group, saying that a group of ethnic minority men were fighting at the Jordan Station at 6:51pm, with one man bleeding from his head.

Last night, three men were injured in a bloody knife attack that occurred at around 6:30pm at a Jordan MTR station platform.

A group of nine to ten men, some brandishing knives, suddenly rushed at the three victims while they stood on the Tsuen Wan line platform, reports Apple Daily.

The three men, who are reportedly from India and hold recognisance papers (meaning they are refugees given the right to reside in Hong Kong), sustained injuries to their heads, waists, and hands.

During the attack, which lasted about half a minute, passengers ran away screaming. The assailants fled the scene.

The police and medical personnel arrived on the platform, where pools of blood could be seen. Two of the injured men were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“Even before the doors opened I could see people fighting, with some holding knives and stabbing here and there,” one train passenger said.

One of the injured men, who was described as being heavily built, “had a piece of flesh that was practically falling off his head, and his left hand was missing some flesh”.

Another passenger said that he heard an MTR worker yelling “Help! There’s a knife fight!” into the internal staff intercom.

Tina Hau, an expat who’s lived in Hong Kong for five years, says she saw knife-wielding men chase other men out of the station’s Exit A. She said one of them had a “big butcher knife”.

“Being an expat in HK for five years, this doesn’t give me and others much comfort regarding Hong Kong’s safety,” she told Coconuts Hong Kong via email.

“I go to the dark side a lot, but this incident will further put off some of my other friends, who live [on] Hong Kong Island, from choosing to travel or live around there when they are already wary of the dark side,” Hau wrote, referring to Kowloon as “the dark side”, as some expats do.

“My impression of Hong Kong’s safety has somewhat changed for the worse,” Hau continued.

“I think I will avoid [the] Jordan MTR for a while and [instead] walk from Tsim Sha Tsui.”

According to Apple Daily, the injured men know their attackers.

The police are inspecting the CCTV footage and are searching for the assailants.
