Designer launches Kickstarter campaign for poster series inspired by Hong Kong wet markets

From their red hanging lamps to their iconic signage, Hong Kong’s wet markets take up an important patch in the colourful tapestry of Hong Kong.

Designer and globetrotter Tiffany Wan clearly knows this better than most as she embarks on a Kickstarter campaign to launch a series of posters and postcards inspired by Hong Kong’s traditional food markets.

If she reaches her goal of USD3,500, she will produce the items as the first project under an online storefront dubbed “WanderlabDesigns”.

Writing on her Kickstarter page, Wan says: “I love living in Hong Kong, the global city I now call home, especially to explore the local markets which are scattered throughout this international city. Each neighbourhood has its own marketplace, often with its own local flavour or charm, and even specialty.”

“However, these local communities are an old lifestyle, disappearing to make room for skyscrapers, high-rises, or more profitable land use. Inspired by the unique market culture and tradition, these posters are a simple way to present, celebrate, and pay tribute to the hustling and bustling markets of Hong Kong.”

Rewards start for pledges of just USD5, which would warrant a mini-post e-postcard to be sent to you for download.

An USD8 pledge would see a mini-poster postcard mailed to you, while a pledge of USD200 or more would get you a 30-minute Skype convo with Wan (who clearly has great chat) and your choice of poster or postcard.

Wan has 25 days to reach her goal. Get pledging, Hong Kong!
