Hong Kong’s beloved giant panda Ying Ying is due to give birth in less than a week, Ocean Park officials announced today.
If all goes well, the cub will be the first giant panda ever to be born in Hong Kong.
Ying Ying is thought to have got herself knocked up during a “sex holiday” to Sichuan earlier this year. The 10-year-old was temporarily relocated to a panda reserve in mainland China where numerous eligible bachelors awaited.
However, Ocean Park told the SCMP that they’re not sure if Ying Ying got pregnant naturally or though artificial means, as both methods were undertaken.
Two panda maternity experts have be flown into Hong Kong from Sichuan to provide care for the mother and cub-to-be, the latter of which is estimated to currently measure an adorable 3.5 centimetres.
