On a morning late last month, a bystander filmed a video appearing to show someone pushing an older man onto the street during a altercation at the Yiu On Shan estate minibus stop in Ma On Shan, reports Apple Daily.
The video shows an elderly man shouting at a man, who looks to be of South Asian origin, that “Hong Kong is not for you, it’s for Chinese people!”
The younger man’s calm demeanour suddenly breaks, and he turns around and flips out on the old man, shouting a stream of obscenities, which we can’t publish here, in near-perfect Cantonese.
Though his anger at the old man’s racist outburst is pretty understandable, the South Asian man quickly turns violent, shoving the old man onto the road, then grabbing his belongings and throwing them after him.
The older man then scrambles after his things and scoops them up before running back to the curb, throwing a punch at the younger man who hits him back. The resilient old man falls back onto the road, then gets up again.
Another person waiting for the bus stepped in, telling the younger man that “as long as you’ve hit someone, you’re in the wrong”, after he tried to defend himself by saying that the old man had cut the line.
The person who filmed the video said he then got on the bus and didn’t see the aftermath of the fight. According to Apple Daily, the police have no records of a fight occurring in Ma On Shan at the time.
