Kitten wrapped in tape rescued after suspected animal abuse

A small tabby kitten was discovered on Tong Kung Leng in Fanling yesterday evening suffering from blood and fur loss, after its abdomen was tightly constricted by some kind of tape.

At around 10pm, a 30-year-old woman, surnamed Tang, heard the unmistakeably plaintive meows of the abandoned cat, and found the poor moggy huddled underneath a tree. Tang immediately contacted police for help, who, after inspecting the cat, are now treating the case as animal cruelty.

The case is being handled by a crime investigation team specifically focussed on preventing cruelty to animals, an initiative that was introduced in 2011 under the Animal Watch Scheme.

The cat has been taken into the care of the SPCA to receive the veterinary procedures it needs. Preliminary exams show that the kitten is approximately one year old, and is a local shorthair cat.
