CocoBites: Hong Kong foodie news for November 2015 (Thanksgiving Special)

All-you-can-eat American

Get your fully-fledged Thanksgiving fix at everyone’s favourite Happy Hour venue Stone Nullah Taven this year with Chef Vinny’s all-American feast. On Nov. 26 & 27, an all-you-can-eat family-style slap up of Garlic Butter Roasted Turkey/Southern Fried Turkey and all the trimmings, including Broccoli and Four Cheese Casserole, will be on the table, alongside Pecan and Apple Pie for afters. All this comes at HKD548 per head with an additional HKD198 for free-flow drinks.

Stone Nullah Tavern, G/F, 69 Stone Nullah Lane, Wan Chai, (+852) 3182-0128, info@stonenullahtavern.com.

Homestyle without the hassle

Those who want to celebrate Thanksgiving in an intimate setting but can’t be arsed with all that cooking malarky can take luxury home from the Mandarin Oriental. Back by popular demand, the takeaway boxes contain either 7kg or 10kg of Roast Turkey with Sweet Potato Mash, Stuffing and enough sauces to drown a small child. There’s also an awesome selection of desserts, courtesy of the Mandarin Cake Shop, and two bottles of organic cider with the Family Feast. Prices start at HKD2,008, with the boxes available from Nov. 1-30 with two days’ notice.

Bird-lovers in Bloom

If you want the bird that died to feed you to have had the best life possible beforehand, head to Lily & Bloom for their “Heritage Turkey”, said to be one of the finest organic breeds in the world, being hormone and antibiotic free and having enjoyed a longer lifespan and slower growth rate than your usual gobbler. Half and whole previously happy birds are available in house and for takeaway from Nov. 1-28 alongside a choice of three sides, with prices starting from HKD1,180. A liquid Thanksgiving in the form of festive cocktails will also be served upstairs in Bloom for HKD100 a pop.

Lily & Bloom, 5-6/F, LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham Street, Central, (+852)  2810-6166.

Thank Asia

Not ones to change a winning formula, Mott 32 will again be offering diners a decidedly Asian Thanksgiving experience with their free range turkey served three ways – none of which you’ll have had before (unless you went there last year, of course). First up, Whole BBQ Roasted Turkey will be carved table-side and served a’la Peking Duck with pancakes and sauces; next comes the Turkey and Five Shade Salad, that sees the pulled meat served with fresh exotic fruits, veggies and a sweet peanut sauce; finally the embattled bird will be minced up and served laab style in a crisp lettuce cup. The menu will start on Nov. 16, priced at HKD1,880.

Mott 32, Basement, Standard Chartered Building, 4-4a Des Voeux Road, Central, (+852) 2885-8688, reservations@mott32.com.

Befriend the Butcher

For a New York fairytale type of Thanksgiving, you can trust Blue Butcher to make everything magical. The famous “Hunter Valley” free-ranged turkey (fed on the organic grains that grow by the Hunter River in New South Wales) will again be on the chopping board, which is just how everything is served here, tbh. With 48-hours’ advanced warning from Nov. 26, full or half birds – along with creamy mash, candied bacon and sprouts and Chef Danny’s famous Pumpkin Pie – can be eaten in or taken out with prices starting from HKD930.

Blue Butcher, 108 Hollywood Road, Central, (+852) 2613-9286, reservations@bluebutcher.com.

Get down and dirty

If you’re feeling a little dirty but want to keep your hands clean and callus-free this year, screw the whole turkey and trimmings #basicbitchshit and indulge in a guilty pleasure at Double D. The LKF burger joint is starting Thanksgiving early on Nov. 6 with the roll out of the Double Smoked Turkey Melt for HKD70. The sexy sandwich, which comes dripping in cheddar cheese, roasted onions and homemade cranberry aioli, will be served from 11:30am from Monday to Saturday. Sorry, you’re still on your own for Sunday lunch, lazy.

Double D, Shop E G/F Duke Wellington House, 22 Wellington Street, Central.
