A three-and-a-half foot long wild boar was spotted swimming in the waters near Tong Yin street in Tseung Kwan O yesterday morning.
Ming Pao reports that a dragonboat crew was getting onto their boat when they saw a windsurfer waving to them from the water. He had seen the boar swimming and feared that it would drown, or injure passersby if it made it back to shore.
The dragonboat team worked together (as is the nature of dragon boating) to bring the boar back to land and restrained it until the SPCA and Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department arrived.
Wild boars are not protected under Hong Kong law, and are usually found in rural areas in Sai Kung, Tai Lam Chung and Sha Tau Kok rather than splashing about in the open ocean.
