‘Love Is Wild’: Photo exhibition showcases endangered wildlife with Hong Kong celebrity power

African elephants may become extinct in the wild by 2020, and Hong Kong plays no small part in this. The city is a global hub for the ivory trade – which kills 33,000 elephants a year – and it is home to the world’s largest ivory market, according to WildAid.

But how do you get a city best known for glitz, finance and shopping to pay attention to the plight of a creature that lives 10,000 kilometres away?

Conservationist, TV producer and multimedia artist Sean Lee-Davies is using his talents to create an unconventional body of work melding celebrity power and wildlife conservation for his non-profit, Project C:CHANGE. The organisation “aims to help people living in Asian cities reconnect with nature through the power of media”.

(You may know Lee-Davies, whose mother is Hong Kong Chinese and whose father is British, as the host and producer of TVB shows Tycoon Talk and Adventures To The Edge.)

Lee-Davies’ photography exhibition, entitled “Love is Wild”, showcases 45 fine art images depicting Hong Kong models and celebrities posing next to endangered creatures in their wild habitats.

The likes of Jennifer Tse, Gaile Lok, Mikki Yao, and Jocelyn and Anthony Sandstrom travelled to five countries across Africa, the Philippines and the Maldives, where they encountered whale sharks, cheetahs, lions, orangutans and elephants.

The resulting images are breathtaking and ethereal, juxtaposing the models’ graceful beauty with the animals’ untamed nobility, leaving one to wonder just how such a photograph can be captured.

Proceeds from the prints’ sales will be going to wildlife conservation organisations combating illegal poaching and habitat destruction.
