Cat-astrophe averted! Firefighters save kitten that fell into drain in Tai Wo Hau

Firefighters worked tirelessly to save a moggy who had fallen into a drain in Tai Wo Hau last night. A photo of the rescue mission was posted to Facebook at 6.45pm yesterday. It was reported that the cat was stuck in a drain outside of Tai Wo Hau Sports Centre on Tai Ha Street.

Passion Times reported that people heard meowing outside the Sports Centre as early as 11am. However, the SPCA was apparently not contacted until well into the afternoon. After arriving on the scene, SPCA personnel contacted the Fire Services Department for help.

The whole rescue took just under an hour, with netizens posting that the cat was saved at 7.35pm. Upon examining it, the SPCA identified the cat as a three-month old black male. One local Facebook user said that she was sure he was a stray she knew, and posted a photo of what she believed to be the same cat sleeping rough on top of a bridge.

While his rescue seems heartwarming, cat lovers have expressed concerns that the kitten could be put down if he isn’t adopted. Hopefully somebody will make room in their home (and heart) for this poor little accident-prone cat.
