Tired of annoying square dance aunties? Localist proposes bikini-clad solution

Those who’ve been paying attention will know that the “square dance aunties” of Mong Kok have caused quite a few controversies, a nuisance to pedestrians, and even violent protests of late. But now a controversial localist thinks he has a solution – hiring bikini-clad dancing girls to put on a counter-show in the same area.

We sense war… or a sitcom.

Activist and upcoming district council election candidate Nakade Hitsujiko (aka Chung Ming-lun), 24, visited Sai Yeung Choi Street on Sunday evening as part of his election campaign – and brought a bikini-clad girl with him. Unsurprisingly, the stunt quickly attracted a crowd as the girl struck poses for the baying mob.

Nakade said he would hire more sexy dancers to descend on the busy pedestrian area to counter the square dance aunties, whose presence sparked violent clashes in June this year. The activist aims to use local bikini girls to steer attention away from the aunties and attract tourists.

“I propose spending HKD50 million [District Council] funding and hire beautiful girls like this one to party with us together! We will liberate international tourists’ perception – we will use local beauties to fix mainland women,” Nakade said during his speech.

Chung, who adopted the Japanese name Nakade, is a candidate for the upcoming District Council election in the Yau Tsim Mong constituency under the entity “Hong Kong City-State Royal Family”. He is known for his unconventional approach to politics (no shit) and is a devout activist in the localism scene, which wants Hong Kong to be separated from China.

The Electoral Committee previously issued Chung’s political platform with a warning after it used the phrase “Hong Kong independence”, which violates the Basic Law, reports Stand News. The committee later removed the phrase from his platform after Chung first refused to alter it.

The District Council election is set for Nov. 22. Chung is running against Democrat Lam Ho-yeung and independent candidate Chung Chak-fai.
