Cathay plane evacuated in Hong Kong due to passenger’s insistence on storing luggage throughout aircraft

A Cathay Pacific plane was evacuated at Hong Kong Airport on Wednesday after cabin crew became suspicious of a South Asian man who reportedly insisted on spreading his hand luggage out between various overhead compartments.

Apple Daily (as translated by EJI) reports that the CX713 flight, which was scheduled to leave Hong Kong for Bangkok at 9:10am, was delayed for two and a half hours as the aircraft was emptied, and all passengers and their luggage forced to undergo additional security checks.

The plane’s captain apparently made the call after cabin crew described how the man could not give a satisfactory reason for his refusal to put his luggage in the holder above his own seat only.

The flight finally took off at 11:30am after nothing suspicious was found in any luggage, including that of the South Asian man.

Cathay apologised for the delay but stressed that passenger safety is their upmost concern.
