‘Ice skater paedophile’ agrees to be extradited to Britain

Convicted rapist and “ice skater paedophile” Joseph Tsang agreed to be deported to Britain yesterday in Eastern Court, despite formerly indicating that he would challenge the extradition order.

SCMP reports that Tsang’s case has been adjourned until tomorrow afternoon to allow prosecution to prepare documents for him to sign.

After that, the former ice skater will return to Britain, where he will face sentencing in two trials related to child sex, rape and sexual assault.

A British court convicted Tsang of child sex charges in January, in a case which involved offences allegedly commited in 2012 against a 14-year-old girl.

Tsang was due to face a second trial in Oxford in August for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in 2011, but he absconded before his court appearance and was convicted in absentia a month later.

Tsang has been described as an “accomplished ice skater”, having appeared on the British television programme “Dancing on Ice”. British police said they believed Tsang used the sport to groom young girls into sexual activity.

Tsang’s disappearance led to Interpol issuing a red notice for his arrest, and Chief Executive CY Leung issued “authority to proceed” for his extradition following his capture.
