TVB actress investigated for allegedly phony degree

TVB actress and 2013 Miss Hong Kong runner-up Sisley Choi is being investigated by a university in the United States after enrolling for a master’s degree with allegedly forged qualifications.

According to Apple Daily (as translated by EJ Insight), Choi enrolled in Concordia University Wisconsin last year for a master’s degree in business administration, and claimed to have a bachelor’s degree from Bulacan State University in the Philippines.

Choi apparently graduated from BSU just two months after starting the programme, which she had enrolled in via Lifelong College in Hong Kong.

The Education Bureau is currently investigating the Hong Kong-based college for allegedly backdating students’ degrees, amongst other things.

Choi’s application to CUW included a recommendation letter signed by a company called Cheerful Media & Co, where she was said to be employed.

The writer of the letter, Tong Suet-ha, detailed how she had witnessed Choi’s diligence during her bachelor’s studies at BSU.

However, Apple Daily could not find a company registered under Cheerful Media & Co. in Hong Kong, and found that Tong and Choi share the same address, leading some to the conclusion that Tong is, in fact, Choi’s mother.

Gretchen James, vice president of Concordia University Wisconsin, told Apple Daily that the accusation is very serious and that the university is “highly concerned”.

If the university decides that Tong and Choi have affected the real interests of others, their actions may constitute conspiracy to defraud.
