‘Internet Article 23’ reading adjourned after more than half of lawmakers fail to show

A second reading of the controversial copyrights bill (AKA “Article 23 in the cyber world”) has been postponed until next Wednesday after a legislative meeting was adjourned this afternoon.

LegCo was forced to adjourn the meeting at 1:15pm today as an insufficient number of lawmakers were in attendance, the SCMP reports.

Albert Chan, People Power lawmaker, had suggested the possibility of an adjournment to the media prior to LegCo’s decision. He said that he hoped to delay the bill until Lunar New Year.

Kenneth Chan, whose call for quorum instigated the postponement, dramatically claimed he was fighting for another day of free expression.

A mass protest rally against the bill, which was due to be held this evening, will also be put on hold.

Opponents fear that the controversial bill will impact upon their rights and liberties on the interwebz. #SaveOurPorn!
