Brace yourselves, Hongkongers – wintery weather is coming hard and fast!

Whip out the winter woollies and long johns and prepare to go into hibernation mode, Hongkongers. A spell of spine-chillingly cold weather is about to hit our sub-tropical climate hard.

The Hong Kong Observatory predicts that temperatures will fall significantly over the next few days, and that it will be – wait for it – “cold” during the middle and latter parts of the week.

To clarify, the Observatory deems anything between the arctic temperatures of 8-12ºC as “cold”. And in case you were in any doubt, the icon for “cold” weather on their website features a thick jumper and scarf, to help us grasp the severity of the situation.

The only redeeming feature of this otherwise apocalyptic report is the fact that we will only experience the very top end of the “cold” scale this week (what an utter relief). The Observatory estimates that temperatures will fall to a minimum of 12ºC on Thursday and Friday, but every true Hongkongers knows that’s bloody Baltic.

As you can imagine, Coconauts, Hong Kong’s going to be a pretty bleak place over the next few days. We strongly advise that you drop whatever you’re doing now, and rush to the nearest supermarket to stock up for the lockdown ahead. If it’s a race for the last hot water bottle, so be it.

(Hopefully) see you on the other side.
