Hong Kong bar scandal unfolds: Australian minister ‘made advances’ on official notetaker

The public servant who allegedly faced “inappropriate” advances from Australian minister Jamie Briggs – who has since resigned – has been revealed to be a member of staff for the Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong.

The woman, whose identity remains anonymous, was assigned to the married minister as an official notetaker during his trip to Hong Kong, the SCMP reports.

According to reports, the woman called her colleagues in floods of tears from a taxi after leaving a bar in Lan Kwai Fong where the incident took place.

Before all the juicy details emerged, Coconuts HK assumed all this went down in Wan Chai, so we apologise if we tarnished the area’s good reputation in any way.

The exact bar remains unknown, however, and it is believed that there were no independent witnesses.

Briggs apparently sparked the upset by complimenting the woman on her “piercing eyes”. It sounds pretty tame as far as sleazy souls in LKF go, but there’s no doubt more to this story than meets the eye, piercing or otherwise.

The pervy politician resigned from his role as Minister for Cities and the Built Environment on Tuesday, confessing that his advances were an “error of professional judgement”.

However, he tried to defend his actions in his resignation letter, denying that he had intended to “act inappropriately” (who ever does?) and stating that he had done “nothing illegal”.

According to the Daily Mail Australia, Briggs claims that he only pecked the woman on the cheek during their meeting in November.

It is believed his wife Estee will be standing by her man despite the controversy. It never did Hill Dog any harm, we suppose.
