Dog ‘sneaks’ into owners’ luggage, flies from Hong Kong to Japan undetected

A sneaky Schnauzer apparently flew all the way from Hong Kong to Japan in a suitcase last week, unbeknown to his unobservant owner and security officials at both airports.

According to Apple Daily (as translated by EJI), the dizzy dog owner departed from Hong Kong on Dec. 28 for a holiday with his family in Japan.

Just as he was about to board a coach outside Hokkaido Airport a casual seven hours after his departure, however, the man’s mother-in-law phoned and dropped the bombshell that his pet dog was nowhere to be found in Hong Kong.

On hearing the news, the careless packer checked his suitcase and found the sly Schnauzer inside. The dog was reportedly well. To be fair, his flight was probably no worse than doing economy on Air Asia.

The owner told family and friends that the dog probably snuck into his suitcase, which he didn’t check before closing.

We feel check-in staff might need to add a new question to their list: “Did you pack this bag yourself, sir? Did you check there were no live animals inside before zipping up?”

The owner decided to continue on his journey and to return to Hong Kong on New Year’s Day, while the dog was flown back Hong Kong by Japanese customs officials on Dec. 30.
