Meals on wheels: Women seen cramming LIVE lobsters into suitcases on the MTR

Talk about fresh seafood! We thought people trying to smuggle eels into Hong Kong was pretty weird, but these women just took it to a whole different level with some live contraband crustaceans.

A pair of women on the MTR were mocked relentlessly by netizens for apparently stuffing live, squirming lobsters into their suitcases on the East Rail MTR yesterday morning.

The women, who are suspected to be mainlanders, were filmed at around 11:30am while travelling from Sheung Shui to Lok Ma Chau. Local media reports suggest that the women were parallel traders capitalising on the demand for fresh, luxury seafood on the mainland during Chinese New Year festivities.

The video’s uploader said they were shoving “at least ten” unfortunate lobsters into their luggage, while one netizen estimated that there were over a hundred of clawed creatures perishing in the travellers’ suitcases.

One commentator cheekily asked “Has 689 [CY Leung]’s wife found a new way of going back to the mainland?” in reference to Regina Leung being dubbed a “Human Lobster” by Hongkongers.
