Dog ‘abandoned’ in viral video reunited with owner

A video of a dog chasing after a white car went viral earlier this week after animal-loving Hongkongers went rabid at the thought of an abandoned dog. The minute-long clip was reportedly filmed by somebody driving behind the white car on Chung Nga Road in Tai Po, according to Apple Daily.

Multiple Hongkongers voiced their concern that the video was proof of animal cruelty and abandonment, and caused a city-wide hunt for the dog’s owner, leading to netizens posting the car owner’s private information.

However, the car’s owner, surnamed Lau, later identified himself and said that the whole incident was a misunderstanding. Lau claimed that the dog in fact belonged to his relative, and had followed his father (who borrowed the car) after taking a shine to him.

According to Lau, his father thought the dog would tire of the chase and return to their relative’s house. Eventually, after the dog continued to chase him, Lau’s father reportedly got out of the car to take it home, at which point the playful pooch had already disappeared.

Hongkongers far and wide, including TVB actor Alan Luk, shared posts appealing for the whereabouts of the dog, a Hong Kong style mongrel (or tong gau) called Dor Dor.

Thankfully, a real estate agent surnamed Kwok took Dor Dor to the police station on Tuesday, after suspecting the stray he found and the dog reported missing on social media were one and the same.

Concerned Coconauts will hopefully be pleased to find that Dor Dor was safely returned to his owner, a 60-something-year-old man from Pinehill Village in Tai Po. We hope the last few days haven’t been too ruff for the little fella!
