‘Bomb hunter’ finds suspected Japanese wartime shell in Hong Kong

At around 9am today, a suspected Japanese wartime bomb was found near 15 Middle Gap Road, according to Oriental Daily.

After being notified, the police cordoned off the area as personnel from the Exposive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) investigated. Firefighters were also called to the scene in case of an emergency.

The shell, which is suspected to be a mortar bomb, is approximately 10 centimetres long and was reportedly found by a “military enthusiast” called David.

The 49-year-old said he often searches for wartime shells with a metal detector while walking around hilly or mountainous areas with fellow “bomb hunters”.
