The day before yesterday was a fruitful time for Hong Kong Customs, with officers making two drug busts: one involving suspected methamphetamine with a market value of HKD590,000 at Lo Wu Control Point, and the other involving suspected ketamine worth HKD250,000 at Lok Ma Chau Control Point.
A 21-year-old man claiming to be a delivery man will be faced with trafficking charges after customs officers found two kilos of suspected ketamine in a paper bag. It’s unclear if he had peeked into the paper bag and seen exactly what he was “delivering”.
Later that very night, officers intercepted a 51-year-old male passenger claiming to be a logistics worker with suspected methamphetamine in his rucksack (minus two points for a lack of creativity).
Our two suspected drug traffickers have a date with the Fanling Magistrate’s Court today. Drug trafficking is a very serious offence under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, and offenders can face a maximum penalty of lifetime imprisonment and a fine of HKD5 million.
