Chef who threw chihuahua from height of 6-7 feet convicted of animal cruelty

A middle-aged chef has been convicted on three counts of animal cruelty for throwing a chihuahua from a height of seven feet, Kwun Tong District Court heard today.

The man, who was not identified, abused the animal on three occasions during May 2015, Oriental Daily reports. One one of the occasions, the dog was thrown down to the ground “like a frisbee” from a height of around six to seven feet, and reportedly rolled around and howled loudly after landing on the ground. It was later found to be limping.

The defendant, who denied the charges, was deemed guilty after the magistrate found his account of what happened to be inconsistent.

In the meantime, the defendant has been released on bail. His case has been adjourned until May 5, when he will be sentenced pending reports about his behaviour during probation, community service, as well as court-ordered mental and psychological evaluations.
